[view link] Gotta love politicians, life is easy when you have a fully stocked pantry and gym in your house. At this point Im hoping we shut down things for 2 months to only have this wreak havoc on us this summer. There needs to be a balance between quarantine and living life!

"Earlier Monday, Mayor Bill de Blasio warned the coronavirus crisis -- the economic, social and other fallout -- may ultimately compare to the United States climate during the Great Depression." Says one of the very guys primarily responsible for it by participating in shutting down the largest city in the country.

The NYC restaurant industry must be in a horrible state right now. DeBlasio is out only for himself. He’s such a loser and a complete tool. He failed on the national platform, so sadly NYC is stuck with this idiot!

The total number of people infected is estimated to be six times the number of confirmed cases. So if the Johns Hopkins site shows 170,000 confirmed cases, the true number of contagious cases is probably over one million. We probably have over 100K right now in the US. https://science.sciencemag.org/content/early/2020/03/13/science.abb3221 Social distancing is necessary if we're ever going to get through this. US also needs a radical increase in testing.

===> "The NYC restaurant industry must be in a horrible state right now." And hotels, theatres, stores, amusement operators, etc., etc. Countless businesses will likely go under and easily hundreds of thousands of workers will experience financial hardship, all of which is now being exported to the entire tri-state. And well all know that this won't end in two weeks - it will likely take months. The financial havoc that these politicians are wreaking is beyond easy measure. And now they have the audacity to blame the federal government for not imposing this crap upon the entire nation.

For what it's worth I support the decision and wish they'd done it sooner. People either need to take personal responsibility and save/stock up for these things as conservatives want or we need to have strong social safety nets to lower the impact of these events as liberals want. Ideally a mix of both.

"Gotta love politicians, life is easy when you have a fully stocked pantry and gym in your house." _______________ What an idiotic post. Do you think politicians around the country want to shut down the economy? We just had the Fed cut interest rates to zero and start a new round of QE to the tune of $500B. In response, the Dow lost 2700 points (as I write this) and we've nearly wiped out all stock gains during the entire Trump administration. All we have left is fiscal stimulus -- which isn't easy given the fact that we have a trillion-dollar deficit. We need social distancing and far more testing. Since none of this seems to sink in, here's the Sesame Street explanation of exponential growth: https://www.pbslearningmedia.org/resource/vtl07.math.number.exp.lilyescape/lily-pad-escape/#.Xm_ai6hKiUk

@RandomMember, noone wants to shut down the economy, but I dont believe they have are really concerned about health moreso liability if this gets crazy. I would love to see a study on the effect of a sedentary lifestyle for hundreds of million vs a pandemic. If only we acted this harshly when diabetes and heart disease became prevalent

Santa Clara County is pretty much on lock down! Also they seem to have stopped updating the cases and death record. Why, I know not. https://www.sccgov.org/sites/phd/DiseaseInformation/novel-coronavirus/Pages/home.aspx Democracynow today, talking about Corona, then analysis of Biden-Sanders debate. https://www.democracynow.org/shows/2020/3/16 SJG
