Slang words used by strippers

Avatar for docsavage

As someone in his late sixties who spends very little time among younger people, hearing recent slang words or phrases is something I would only ever hear from young strippers in strip clubs. What are some slang words or phrases you hear from strippers? The first time I heard "diss", "kick him to the curb", "thot", "bff" and more recently "level up" was in a strip club from strippers.

Depends on the type of stripper. The latinas use totally different slang and the white girls depends on if they are country or ghetto. The ghetto ones you can usually find the same slang terms in popular female rap songs. Nicki minaj, cardi b, sexy redd etc
One of them said “i aint got time fo dat”

Kick him to the curb appears in every 1940s and 50s detective movie. Older than me.

Apparently, I have "rizz". I think that is stripperese for "... but he has a good personality."

"Rizz" just means you have the confidence to attract women.

Some of the slang makes sense to me, like rizz being derived from charisma. Diss coming from disrespect is another one that doesn't require a lot of thought or explanation. Kick to the curb is fairly old, and is fairly straightforward to understand.

But other things like "no cap" just fly right over my head. And a lot of their acronyms escape me, or at least take me long enough to process that it disrupts the flow of conversations. The fact that they speak using acronyms usually leaves me a little confused to begin with.

@dolfan "No cap" is AAVE term that has entered the Gen Z vernacular due to the popularity of hip hop and trap. "Capping" is an old school AAVE term that dates back to the 1950s and means like to boast or brag.

No cap is often used to mean true, no lie, or correct.

Where I grew up if someone was capped it meant they got shot and had died.

I so well remember when I said the word 'bitchin' in front of my dad back in the early '60s. He just stared at me.

Unfortunately, the examples docsavage gave were used by GenX and Millennials. Gen z have moved onto more nonsense terms. Main character energy, rizz (charisma), sus (suspicious), skibidi (nonsense), drip (clothes), and this website I found while looking for more. slangwise.com

Be glad if you are not a k-12 teacher where you have to keep up with this ever-evolving crap

"No cap" was just an example. The strippers, well actually I think younger family members actually, explained the meaning to me. However, they weren't able to cite the origin or explain it. They just said cap = lie, they didn't or more accurately couldn't connect the dots to capping = bragging with exaggeration. There was also dispute as to it meaning "for real" vs "no lie" I There's a lot of potential meaning's I'd associate to cap long before lie. Cap as in a limit, cap as in the top that seals a bottle, cap as in shoot, cap as in hat.

Regarding the no cap stuff… ive met people who use that and if someone says something they dont believe theyve said “no way hes capping” .

I dont think most people really know or research the historical origins of these words. For instance even the N word is actually derived from the countries Niger and Nigeria… and it was actually used as a regular part of the english language up till maybe the mid 1950s. You can find clips of FDR using the N word and it wasnt to be racist or insulting.

Another thing, like the word slave, is supposedly derived from Slavic peoples who were the first slaves in history supposedly.

Also the modern terms are a bit crazier. People say mayne/mane instead of man or dude… bro/brother turned into brah/bruh/breh… people even say blud instead of bud or dude.. blud im thinking is a twist on bud/buddy or it comes from the blood gang.

Between the music, the female vocal register, and me being hard of hearing and also stoned most of the time, I'm lucky if I pick up every third word, so they might as well be speaking Mandarin. I just smile, bob my head agreeably, and yup my way along
