The ACA is one of the most explicitly fascist pieces of legislation passed in recent memory. The insurance industry really made out like the bandits they are on that one.

^ The continuing resolution kept in place all current spending, with no changes. They shut it down because they want changes. Really simple. With the filibuster, which the retards called democrats wanted to get rid of, requires 60 votes to pass a bill, so no one without 60 votes controls the Senate. Dusty is one stupid fuck because the Obamacare subsidies were set to expire under Obama's bill at the end of the year. Obama and the democrats scammed the stupid into passing something that expired when he would be out of office. This is the democrats bill and it shouldn't be continued.

Further, the incredibly stupid always equates payment by insurers/government with healthcare and its not the same. People will lose their taxpayer funded giveaways and clog up the ER, but they will still have healthcare.

The Senate rules can be changed with a simple majority vote. With a rule change, the Senate can pass the Continuing Resolution with a simple majority vote. But, the Republicans want to say they fucked up the country, because all the other kids were doing it too.

First of all, the shut down is the result of the senate vote. It takes 60 votes to avoid the shutdown. Donald Trump does not vote in the senate. He can't "fire" senators. If he screams that he wants a shutdown but the senate votes not to shutdown, it doesn't shut down.

It is easier to get a job today than it has been since WW2. Anyone can get a job. The economy is great, stock market is at all time high. Only TDS sufferers, who aren't grounded in reality, whine about the jobs reports.

The entire ACA subsidies are not going away at the end of the year. What is going away is the enhanced ACA subsidies that were passed during the Inflation Reduction Act. Subsidies will still be available on January 1, 2026, but at a reduced rate.

If you're older, without the subsidies, you'll likely have a premium over a grand a month. You'd have good reason to cut your hours so you'd make $5,000 a month, to still be eligible for subsidies to cap your premium. That would mean the Feds would get about $700 less in taxes from you a month, if you're self-employed. The enhanced subsidies fixed a classic case where a cliff in government assistance creates perverse incentives. The savings from having the cliff is offset by the tax income lost by encouraging people to keep their income lower. I think a lot of people using ACA are people over 55 who got laid off and retired early. They may have to do crazy shit, like move some of their savings into their low-interest checking account, so their income stays below the cliff.

Suppose, when you bought an auto, you had to write a check, and leave the amount blank. The auto dealership would then fill in whatever number they wanted on the check. And it was illegal to buy an auto anywhere except at a dealership. Would you say, fine, everyone can always walk? We're in the equivalent situation when we buy medical care. The government plays a big role in creating this problem. So it's reasonable that people expect the government to guarantee they are not bankrupted or overburdened by the cost of medical care.
